Since it first debuted in the 1974 model year, the Turbo has
been a popular version of the venerable Porsche 911 lineup. The 2012 Porsche
911 Turbo still provides the thrilling performance the world has come to expect
from the model, thanks in part to its twin-turbos that work with 3.8 liter six
cylinder Boxer engine for a peak output of 500 horsepower and 480 pound-foot of
torque. Turbo S models receive additional tuning, resulting in 530 horsepower
and 516 pound-foot of torque.
The 911 Turbo has been called the everyday supercar, and for
good reason. For 2012 the car comes with all-wheel-drive which provides
thrilling grip through tight turns and allows owners to drive the car in rainy
and even snowy weather. Unlike many other high-performance cars, the 911 Turbo
has two rear seats. If the driver keeps the engine RPMs low, the car will drive
in a fairly tame manner, making it practical to drive in traffic and city
stop-and-go traffic. When the driver so chooses, he can transform the car into
a high-performance machine simply by revving the engine higher before shifting
gears.
Driving a 2012 911 Turbo on a daily basis is also more cost
effective than driving other high-performance vehicles regularly. The EPA
estimated fuel mileage for the car is 16 MPG for city driving and 24 MPG for
highway driving. With a 17.7 gallon tank, drivers can expect to go about 283
miles of city driving or 424 miles of highway driving before needing to fill up
the tank, making it a car you can take on the open road.
Performance from the 2012 Porsche 911 Turbo is nothing less
than astounding. Acceleration from 0 to 60 MPH is achieved in a mere 3.2
seconds, making it considerably faster than almost any other car on the road.
The modified MacPherson strut suspension in the front and multilink suspension
in the rear, front and rear stabilizer bars and large 19 inch wheels work
together to give the Porsche 911 Turbo excellent road manners, even when
zipping up winding canyon roads or riding over rough spots in the road.
Inside, both the driver and passengers are treated to a
luxurious experience, no matter if the car is being driven casually or
aggressively. All four occupants enjoy leather seats with large side seat
bolsters that comfortably hold them in place during tight cornering maneuvers. The
front seats provide enough legroom to accommodate people of almost any height,
while luggage space is available both in the front trunk and in the rear with
the seats folded down. Drivers benefit from auto-dimming rearview and side
mirrors, a 13 speaker Bose sound system and an optional PDK transmission with
paddle shifters mounted to the steering wheel. Optional equipment includes
heated and cooled seats and voice command controls.
